A few years ago, John O'Grady wrote a book called Aussie English. His idea was to help newcomers tell a ringer from a ring-in, a cockatoo from a galah, a blue from a bluey, and to introduce the real meaning of a greeting such as "hullo, y'old bastard'. Naturally the book was a great success, but over 100,000 readers were left in a quandary. They had mastered the language, but how could they learn to use it correctly in day-to-day situations? They asked 'is there an etiquette (or etiket) for doing things the Aussie way?’
So, here it is, John O'Grady's Aussie Etiket, an extremely amusing mixture of tongue-in-cheeks and helpful information, with brilliant assistance from Frank Benier.
