Writing from Vietnam

This Anthology, named after one of Vietnam’s most poetic waterways, draws together writing ´from Vietnam´ in every sense. The writers live in Vietnam and a number of other countries. Some are of Vietnamese background, some not, but for all Vietnam has defined itself as a voice of inspiration, of homeland, memory and discovery.

There are stories and poems on home, displacement, war, migration, new spaces, modernity and tradition which give us insight into the beauty and complexity of modern Vietnam and its diaspora. Included are some of its most notable voices: Pham Thi Hoai, Lam This My Da, Ho Anh Thai, Nam Le and many others.

Readers are offered perspectives on Vietnam from both inside and outside the country. The diverse array of writers include renowned authors of the Vietnamese literary canon, second-generation expats based in Australia and America, and non-Vietnamese authors who have special ties with the country and its culture.
